Another set from Azimuth Arts introduces Vera L (Peggi Lepage/AMTI), shot in and around the laneways in Toronto.
Downtown Toronto is filled with laneways. Behind all the townhomes and semi-detached houses on many of the streets, there’s 2400 laneways stretching 300 kilometers strictly for garages and storage units. Artists love these areas — filled with diversity, with virtually no traffic, hiding in plain sight.
Things may change soon, though. The University of Toronto has been tasked to convert some of these garages into laneway houses — a way to get tiny, affordable homes into some of the most prized communities in the city without tearing everything down. Called “suites”, they must draw their utilities from the main house — but could this be a boom for thousands of new, affordable units available in these communities?
